Gassco's different roles include serving as the transport system operator and developer, allocating capacity in the infrastructure and system operation.

 

Special and normal operator responsibilities
Gassco’s primary role can be defined as the exercise of special and normal operator responsibilities.

 

The special operatorship covers the performance of duties allocated to Gassco pursuant to the Norwegian Petroleum Activities Act and associated regulations. It relates to system operation, capacity administration and infrastructure development.

 

The normal operatorship refers to the technical operation of plants and installations pursuant to the Norwegian Petroleum Act’s provisions on operator responsibility. These duties are also regulated in the operator agreement with the Gassled joint venture, which owns the infrastructure for transporting gas from the NCS.

Operatorships

As operator, Gassco is responsible for operating the Norwegian gas transport system on behalf of joint ventures/companies (owners).

 

Developing the gas transport system
This covers Gassco’s role in planning future pipelines and transport-related facilities (process plants and receiving terminals).

 

Allocating capacity in the infrastructure
Gassco allocates the capacity available at any given time in the pipelines and transport-related facilities.  

 

System operation
Gassco treat all companies equally when transporting Norwegian gas to the right location, in the correct volume and to the right quality.
