Which arenas do you spend the summer in? Which arenas do you spend the summer in? This season is the high point for a variety of festivals and conferences, which all provide space in their different ways for communication, relationship-building and relaxation.

Numerous festival opportunities are available, whether you’re a fan of blues, pop, rock, folk music or just a little “Feeling on the Foreshore”.

I’ll personally be spending time both at home and abroad this summer, but August will see me in western Norway.

The Energy Realm 2010 conference on energy, climate and value creation takes place in Haugesund on 10-12 August under the heading “the decade for settling accounts”. There’s drama in the air – anything could happen.

It’s all go after that, with the Herring Jazz festival from 11-15 August. I prefer life at home on the Haugesund quays during this period. A fine dinner with good colleagues, followed by a stroll through the streets with the same people to soak up the atmosphere, is something I really enjoy.

Right at the end of August, I’ll be off to Stavanger and the ONS energy show. A new feature this year is a separate park focused on carbon management, with Gassco as a participant. Being involved there will be both important and interesting.

I’m looking forward to taking part in all these arenas – Energy Realm because it provides scope for debate and new ideas, Herring Jazz because it’s relaxing, and ONS because it’s an international meeting place.

Before all that, however, I’ll be concentrating on the domestic arena, with time at the holiday cabin, fishing for crabs, picnics on islands in the fjord, water slides, amusement parks and bilberries threaded on straw.

Have a good summer – whatever the arenas you choose to occupy.
