HSE24 takes each employee's own safety and that of their colleagues one step further.

Kårstø prosessanlegg

As operator for the Kårstø processing plant, Gassco has overall responsibility for safety at this facility.

Preventing undesirable incidents and accidents is one of the company's most important duties, and the HSE24 course is a contribution to achieving its target of zero personnel injuries and zero environmental and material harm.

Compulsory

Participants learn over three days to think health, safety and the environment day and night. The course is compulsory for anyone working at the plant for more than 14 days.

Cecilie Fure has completed the course, and describes it as good and a positive initiative. "On arrival, we were split into groups and given tasks that encouraged real involvement. The fact that absolutely everyone working at Kårstø  must take lays the basis  for positive discussion, Ms Fure found.

"These discussions were along the things I remember best," she says. "They were very good."

Cover

Participants cover the bulk of HSE  issues in the working environment, in relation to others and for themselves personally.

"Everyone is responsible for their own safety and that of others, and everyone must speak up regardless if they react to something," Ms Fure stresses.

School

But participants are unlikely to feel they are back at school, explains course leader Vidar Bernt Sørensen at technical service provider Statoil.

"We have a different approach to the one normally taken with courses like this," he says.

"Participants must get involved at all times, and they seem to enjoy the course. The feedback we get indicate that  participants regard HSE24 is useful, informative and interesting. We're pleased about that."
